Perched high above the sea on the cliffs of Varengeville in Normandy, Le Bois des Moutiers is a unique example of the British Arts and Crafts movement in France. The collaboration between the world-renowned architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and the famous landscape designer Miss Gertrude Jekyll gave rise to this work of art, consisting of a vast landscape, a large park, a manor house and carefully laid-out gardens.
In 2020, Sophie and Jérôme Seydoux acquired Le Bois des Moutiers and embarked on an extensive programme to restore the gardens and park with Madison Cox and the house with Jacques Grange and Jean-François Bodin. This renovation project was carried out in the original spirit of Bois des Moutiers.

The park is representative of the Arts and Crafts movement and its general principles of massive naturalization of exotic plants, embroidery and stained glass effects and varied, harmonious colors. A continental expression of the famous movement, predominant from the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century.

“an extraordinary experience”
“As a landscaper for several decades, the formidable challenge I faced was to bring this dormant property back to life. A tough challenge, but just as exhilarating.”
thespecies
The acidic nature of the soil, exceptional in Pays de Caux, allowed the introduction of many rare species. The Bois des Moutiers is home to more than 3000 species.
